1970's Paris. An aging diva prepares her come back on stage. From her past glory to her painful abdication, Prima Donna immerses us in the torments of an opera icon in the twilight of her Art. Filmed by the Italian artist and filmmaker Francesco Vezzoli, played by the American photographer and performer Cindy Sherman and based on the eponymous opera by the American-Canadian songwriter Rufus Wainwright, the film brings together those three great artists around a common obsession for the mystery surrounding the figure of the diva.
