Sweeping over the Gobi Desert wastelands wrought by Mongolia’s mining boom, “Colors of White Rock” captures the story of Maikhuu, one of the rare women truck drivers fighting for survival along the country’s hazardous coal roads. As we discover her ensnared in this highway, her journey holds up an astounding, poetically incisive mirror to the human and environmental costs of “Minegolia”.

In 2014, the movie Mommy directed by Xavier Dolan, got the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. This was a great achievement for this precocious director from Quebec, who had just turned 25.

The script - focusing on a tumultuous relationship between a single mother and her hyperactive and violent son - and the bold direction electrified the audience. Shot in Montreal, the documentary  Once upon a time... Mommy narrated by Chiara Mastroianni recounts the genesis of this family drama. It also reveals the failures of society in Quebec : the failure of mental institutions and the impoverishment of the middle class.

Régine Saint-Laurent leads a reclusive life in her apartment ever since retiring from her career as an opera singer, tragically cut short when her voice began cracking on stage. An unexpected encounter causes the demons of her past to reappear : André Letourneur, a journalist, who questions her about the course of her career and her signature role, Eleanor of Aquitaine, written at the height of her splendor. Who lingers as the inspiration behind the character of this lyrical tragedy? Maria Callas? Régine Crespin?

The documentary Mr. X, a film by Tessa Louise-Salomé about the filmmaker and poet Leos Carax is now available on Vimeo on Demand in both French and English-subtitled versions.

It features interviews with Denis Lavant, Mireille Perrier, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Harmony Korine, Serge Toubiana, Caroline Champetier, Gilles Jacob, Kent Jones, Richard Brody , Eva Mendes and Kylie Minogue.
